Healthcare leaders from U.S. hospitals, manufacturers, distributors, group purchasing organizations and industry associations have announced the necessary tools are in place to meet the 2010 GLN Sunrise date of Dec. 31, 2010. The 2010 milestone was established by industry leaders to drive the adoption of the GS1 Global Location Number (GLN) standard for the identification of facility locations in the U.S. healthcare supply chain.
That’s the opening paragraph of a recent news release from GS1 Healthcare US and GS1. You should take a minute to see the release for yourself, for at least two reasons. One is to see the relevant comments about this milestone from John Terwilliger of Abbott Laboratories who is co-chair of the GS1 Healthcare US Location ID (GLN) Workgroup and Joe Dudas who is director of accounting and supply chain informatics at the Mayo Clinic and a member of the GS1 Healthcare US Leadership Team.
The second reason is the photo accompanying the press release. You can see it all here.
