The GS1 Healthcare US Product Identification Workgroup has completed, and is releasing, two new guidelines for implementing GS1 standards in the hospital. One is a Simplified Guideline for U.S. Healthcare Bar Code Scanner Acquisition Criteria, and the other is a Guideline about the Procedure for Responding to Troublesome Bar Codes. From this link, you can freely download either or both of these resources directly from GS1.
Commenting about the development of these guidelines, John Roberts, Director, Healthcare, GS1 US , said: “This was the first time in U.S. healthcare history that a group came together to prepare guidelines to help an industry move together to implement in a coordinated manner, using the experiences from the early adopters. The use of these guidelines by healthcare professionals will allow mass adoption, increase supply chain efficiency, reduce costs and improve patient safety.”
