Today is the 57th anniversary of the first barcode patent. Apparently that interested Google enough to devote one of their famous doodles to mark the occasion. At this Examiner.com article you can see the result and a quick overview of why so many people are fans of the technology.
I’m actually gratified that Google thought enough of barcodes to do this today because I’m a big fan of the technology. Why? Because at a very small cost, barcodes have saved huge amounts of money and accelerated everything in the supply chain to warp speed compared to how it was done in the pre-barcode era. And, because I’m convinced barcodes have a ton of innovation left in them.
