The Global Standards Management Process, or GSMP, is the pre-eminent worldwide collaborative forum where GS1 standards are built and maintained. Recently they issued an email highlighting a few of the special work groups that are being formed and one in particular caught my eye. It is an effort to bring healthcare professionals together with fresh food experts. Why? It has to do with HRI.

This will be a unique opportunity to engage and collaborate with the Fresh Foods Industry to identify the commonality and differences for the Human Readable Interpretation (HRI) requirements for both sectors (Fresh Foods and Healthcare).  With this change, a consistent standardized and global approach to HRI marking can be implemented. This would ensure user and regulatory HRI needs are addressed, prevent regional divergences and promote a practical approach to HRI application.

You can read more about this here at this link including the planned September 24th kick off call.
