When the word ‘barcode’ is used by the next generation to ridicule some within the older generation, can it be long before the old black and white stripes get replaced by2D QR codes or MIT’s new bokode or something else just as long as it is new and different and better? Were not punch cards used in punch lines just before disappearing almost overnight from practical use? What am I talking about? I’m talking about this post entitled “Barcode Dudes”by a writer self-identified as astrochan on a site called Mysterious Orientations:
You’ve seen them, to be sure… follically-challenged men who opt to comb their hair over from the sides, the back, or any place else from which it might reach… the top of the head… They are the object of particular derision in Japan, especially among the younger crowd, who refer to them as “barcode dudes”, in reference to the marked similarities between an obvious comb-over and the ubiquitous black and white product identification coding that has become such a fixture in modern-day life.
