Since GS1′s Thanksgiving Eve issuance of a news release clarifying the fact that barcodes are not a reliable indicator of a product’s country of origin (COO), they have gained a little traction in the mainstream media. It’s a topic we’ve blogged on and seen a lot of traffic (original post and then commentary on the original). It’s only fair I point that out — as we pointed out previously — that, usually, if you want to bury a news story, you put out your statements when no one is watching or listening.
Here is a link to the latest report. A month late, but at least a pick up of the release, it comes from KIP.com 4 which appears to be the website of a local broadcast news group based in Oregon. GS1′s Jon Mellor gets a prominent mention, by the way. But also note how efficiently they handle a subject others have tried to complicate. The story is only 6 paragraphs long and 14 sentences in total. And, they got it right!
