The six most dreaded words at any family gathering can often be, “Want to see our vacation pictures?” But if you’re in the produce industry and you and your colleagues are coming together ”in unprecedented ways,” in the words of PMA’s President, you may really will want to scan the 550 photos that accompany this story about the recent summit where the Produce Traceability Initiative (PTI) was the chief topic of discussion.
I think the story suffers a bit from translation deficit syndrome. It also identifies PMA’s president first as ‘PMA’s President Brian Liberman,’ and subsequently as ‘ Mr. Bryan Silbermann, the President of the PMA.’ But all that aside, it does happen to be true that the initiative is somewhat unprecedented and here’s why Mr. Liberman Mr. Silbermann the PMA’s president says so:
I use the word unprecedented intentionally … first, because the [PTI’s] action plan contains specific timelines and milestones to meet as we adopt and apply the global GS1 standards to code produce containers.
