For anyone still wondering if the GS1 standard holds great promise for international supply chain standardization and velocity, here’s a news announcement from just last month about the GS1 US arm of this movement and the naming of a new Chairman of the Board of Governors.

GS1 US, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the adoption and implementation of standards-based global supply chain solutions, has announced the election of J. Alexander M. “Sandy” Douglas, Jr., president of Coca-Cola North America, to the position of Chairman of the Board of Governors.

Mr. Douglas rose to the top of Coca-Cola North America after serving as Vice President and Chief Customer Officer of the Coca-Cola Company. I’d say he’s a person who knows a thing or two about supply chains, customer satisfaction, the velocity of goods and the agility of product identification and tracking systems, wouldn’t you?
